Fight the Frump! You Deserve the Best! March 28, 2017 14:53

For some women the growing body that comes with pregnancy is an exciting and glorious time.

For many however, there is also a struggle to embrace 'getting bigger' ... quite understandable in our society where gaining weight can feel like a sign of weakness.

When we are not feeling our best, there can be a tendency to dress down, wear baggy clothes and essentially try to fade into the background.

This is one of the worst things we can do for our self esteem.

As we get bigger, let's do ourselves a favour and dress up instead of dressing down.

We all know how much looking good is tied to feeling good.

So go ahead - put a pretty scarf around your neck.

Wear dresses (comfortable and flattering).

Eyeliner and lipstick in just for no reason.

Your good jewelry to hang with friends and relatives.

Distract with cleavage (my fave).

Fight the frump - celebrate your glorious being (take it easy on the self criticism) and enjoy looking and feeling amazing - even have a fashion moment - with flattering cuts, quality fabrics and stylish solutions for one of life's greatest adventures.

You Don't Have to Wear a Dress for Your Maternity Photos June 25, 2016 15:08

Yes I said it and you can tell your aunt/mother/husband I said so. Not everybody feels their best in a dress and there is no reason to force yourself when you already might not be feeling exactly in your prime. Surely you have a lot of other more pressing subjects to concern yourself with - why add "try to please others" to your list! Oh yea she said it. A cute top like THIS crochet (slightly A-line) top from Seraphine doesn't cling and really flatters. This top can be dressed up easily with a classic pearls for a garden party look or with distressed denim and sneakers a la Gwen Stefani. It is also a nursing top that doesn't look like a nursing top which means you will love to wear it for years to come! Or go for THIS really uber hottie maternity and beyond top from Elpasa in Europe. You have plenty of options - a cute maternity skirt and top for a fresh feel, or if you are a jeans girl - why not wear jeans like THIS for a lighter modern look or THESE if you like a more classic dark wash! Whether you want a long and flowing pregnant Goddess feel or boots and jeggings, try to find a photographer who can read people and does the extra work to have the personality of the client taken into consideration when suggesting poses, backdrops and the overall feel of the shoot. One of our favourite giveaways for our GTA and Toronto ladies is the free mini-maternity shoot and free 5 x 7 from BoyGirl Photography. Shout out to Cristina Sacco who always has her clients at the centre of her work!

Here are some helpful tips about cleaning your Spectra Canada Breast Pump!

First time use

  • Sterilize all parts of the breast shield kit excluding the tubing using your preferred sterilization.
  • You DO NOT need to sterilize the tubing as it will not be in contact with your breast milk.
  • And DO NOT sterilize the breast pump body.

After each use

  • Disassemble and wash all parts of your breast shield kit that come into contact with your breast and breast milk and wash in warm soapy water and rinse it in clean water and airdry on clean towel.
  • Keep parts covered when not in use.

Spectra Baby S1 & S2! The Best Breast Pump Now in Canada! March 22, 2016 21:35

Before my first was born I remember researching for hours about what was the best stroller, crib, baby monitor, change table etc - so much so that I now joke I could have done a PhD or at least my Masters in Baby Gear. Once baby was born I remember sending my husband to the store with just one directive - please buy the most expensive pump. My nipples were cracked, I was exhausted and baby was eating constantly - I needed relief and all the reviews of breast pumps that I had read left me confused and unsure...some women loved them, some women hated them - there was no clear winner. Luna has been in business for 4 years and despite specializing in nursing clothing and accessories, we had never stocked a breast pump. There was never a pump that we felt we could sell our customers with confidence - until now!  After reading hundreds of reviews on the best breast pumps and comparing the actual mechanics of the available breast pumps - we are proud to stock the Spectra Baby USA breast pump. Here are some of the features of the S1 pump. Keep in mind the S1 and the S2 are the same pump except the S1 has the rechargeable battery as well as the AC adapter.

 2 Phase Cycling with Let-Down Button provides adjustable suction and cycling in let-down and expression mode

 Customizable pump settings to mom’s own response to follow her flow and find her best settings every time

 Able to be used as a single or double breast pump

 Pump is designed to be really quiet while in use

Looking to Buy Maternity Jeans? Use This Maternity Jeans Buyers Guide. January 19, 2016 21:55

Every pregnant woman will eventually want to buy maternity jeans, but how do you pick out the perfect pair of jeans that fit well and look amazing? There are maternity jeans that look great but they are uncomfortable, some that are very comfortable but you wouldn’t want to be caught in public wearing them, and then there are those that combine comfort and style. So, how do you make sure that you buy the latter pair? Well, thankfully you are on our blog, because all of the maternity jeans that we stock are designed to be worn all day comfortably while allowing you to still rock stylish jeans.

One of the first things you will have to take into consideration when selecting a pair of maternity jeans is the waistband style. There are two main styles, which include the under bump and over bump. We will explain both one so you can identify the maternity jean style that best suits your needs.

Under Bump Maternity Jeans

Under bump maternity jeans do exactly what it sounds like they do; they lay low on your waist and hug right under your baby bump.

The under bump maternity jeans should fit snug while still providing a great deal of elasticity, because you want them to stay up and not slide down.

Check out these maternity jeans along with our entire selection by clicking HERE

Over Bump Maternity Jeans

Over the bump maternity jeans will lay higher up on your waist and they feature comfortable material that sits against your tummy to prevent irritation. Many pregnant women prefer this style because they feel the soft material provides them with additional support.

Some women assume that this style can’t be sexy, but our entire line of maternity jeans are the most comfortable as well as sexy pairs of jeans that you will find. We understand how important it is to continue feeling beautiful while you advance through your pregnancy, and our sexy maternity jeans allow you to feel just that!

While the under bump suit certain body types, the over the bump style are preferred by the majority of women. Bending over or reaching up will not expose your stomach when wearing a pair of over bump maternity jeans.

Exercising Your Pelvic Floor the Easy & Effective Way! June 07, 2015 22:24

Any woman who has been to the doctors, read a woman's magazine, browsed a pregnancy website, or breathed oxygen has no doubt (repeatedly) been told of the importance of strong pelvic floor muscles. Most of us know they are useful to avoid leaking pee (not fun) and to avoid organ prolapse (downright scary) but of course strong pelvic floor muscles are also super important when it comes to having better sex and more orgasms. We are told to do our kegels and all will be well. READ MORE

Why Are There So Few Designer Maternity Stores In a City As Big As Toronto?? May 30, 2015 00:30

If you ask a woman from our mother's generation they will tell you that we should consider ourselves lucky because when they were pregnant - there really were NO maternity stores in or around Toronto offering stylish fashion for pregnant women. Period. Apparently we should consider ourselves lucky that we can now find a handful of pregnancy shops carrying stylish maternity and sometimes cute nursing wear within the 4 corners of the GTA. Supportive Comfort: Choosing the Perfect Nursing Bra For After Baby is Born March 04, 2015 23:44

For all my lovely ladies who cannot come into the store, this is a blog all about choosing the best nursing bras for your hospital bag and for when supportive comfort is what you crave.

First thing is I'm referring to nursing 'bras' in the plural form because you will need more than one! We say three is the minimum so that you have one to wear, one in the wash and one that is ready to change into when your little angel deposits puke, poop or whatever on you (sorry).

Second point I would like to address is that at some point in recent history, a surely well-intentioned person suggested that women should wait until the baby is born to buy nursing bras. It seems like it could make sense but NO DON'T WAIT!! After seeing a number of women with 2-day old babies hobble into the store desperate for a bra (and sleep) I would like to respectfully suggest that there is no need to wait to buy a bra.

Quality nursing bras are made of materials that will adapt to your changing body. Simply buy a bra designed for breastfeeding with material that stretches and make sure there is room to grow in the cup and room to shrink in the band.

Chances are when your milk comes in you will go up one or two cup sizes and at the same time once the baby is born your rib cage will shrink back down (especially if you employ post-partum compression).

Now some of you may be thinking, "What if I can't nurse? I don't want to waste money on nursing bras." This is the biggest myth of all. Yes some women cannot breastfeed for medical reasons. Many women who can in fact breastfeed get stressed, get bad advice, get discouraged and give up. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. We are afraid we can't do it and that baby is hungry and it hurts etc. so we supplement with formula and then because when it comes to breastfeeding 'demand equals supply' and there is less demand (nursing), we end up with less supply (milk).

The best advice was from a nurse who told me to give it 6 weeks before I gave up. And then at 6 weeks, I promised myself to go until 3 months and then by 3 months...heck I had spent that money on those bras - no way I was giving up!

Ok so back to getting you some fabulous nursing bras... (the kind you will thank me about via email!) most likely if you are packing your hospital bag or just had your baby, you will want a bra that you can fall asleep in and that will be super gentle on your tender breasts.

So without further delay here are Luna's Top 3 Supportive Comfort Bras in order of popularity:

1. Bravado Bodysilk Bra - Our most popular bra offers the coverage of a sports bra with removable pads.

2. Boob Fast Food Bra - Very stretchy, less 'bra' than the bodysilk and cute enough for Gwen Stefani to rock.

3. Cache Coeur 3D Light - made of spacer foam, women say it feels like air. Most supportive of the comfort bras.

To try them is to love them and here is why:

  1. The BEST PRICE on Aden & Anais Swaddles - OH YES WE DO!
  2. They are breathable. Sweaty baby are not happy babies. Muslin and Bamboo are both temperature regulating fabrics so they help baby stay warm without over-heating.

  6. They are huge - which means you can actually swaddle your (9lb) baby without losing your mind. Why Buying Cheap Maternity Clothes Doesn't Save You Money February 21, 2015 09:48

I have always been a price-oriented shopper - the sale rack is where I start in every store. I have learned an important lesson over the years, which is - that in most cases - we get what we pay for. Nowhere is that more true than in maternity clothing. Simply because you will be washing and wearing a few core pieces again and again. I bought a pair of black maternity pants from the mall - after 2 washes they were no longer black and my butt was sagging! I ended up buying another pair and the same thing - fading, pilling and crappy fit - after only a few washes. So two pairs of black maternity pants and I still didn't have anything to wear. Did buying cheap save me money? Paying more for something I love to wear and feel fabulous in is smart - otherwise the item sits in the back of our closet - I got a great deal - but I never wear that saving money?

Maternity Leggings: A Pregnant Woman's Best Friend January 24, 2015 22:57

One of the most common remarks we hear from women trying on clothes in our store is, "Wow! This is so comfortable!".

Yes we all love the idea of 'saving' and somehow we have it in our head that there is some award for suffering with discomfort...actually the opposite is true. We can get the unjust title of 'a complainer'!

Pregnancy already comes with its own set of discomforts - why add to them by trying to wear clothes that almost fit, kinda fit or fit as long as you don't move, breathe or bend over.

A basic pair of black maternity leggings are a pregnancy must-have. Everybody has their own idea of a perfect leggings but the Seraphine maternity legging is a best-seller for 6 basic reasons:

1. The price - we sell them for only $40.

2. The band goes up all the way over the tummy (or can be folded down). This means no annoying line in the middle of your tummy - even when you are really big - and no discomfort whatsoever.

3. They have a very slight sheen - meaning they can be worn with dressier tops and dresses as well - they don't look like sweatpants.

4. Very breathable! You can sleep in these leggings and they are perfect for pre-labour.

5. Totally opaque - even when you bend over, even in the sun, even if you had a big lunch.

6. They wash really well - no fading, no pilling - wash after wash (assuming they don't mistakenly get put in the dryer with hubby's socks!)

Remember there is no award for trudging through pregnancy, stretching out your pre-pregnancy clothes or buying one size bigger and pretending they fit everywhere else!

You deserve comfort, you deserve quality - and at $40 a pair - these are crafted with the stylish and economical woman in mind.

What The Heck Is Post-Partum Compression And Why Would I Want to Do It? January 24, 2015 22:36

Anyone who has had a baby knows that when you leave the hospital after having a baby you will still look approximately 8 months pregnant. If you aren't prepared for this reality - well now you know...and you are welcome.

Postpartum wraps have been known to help reduce the swelling of the uterus, decrease bloating caused by water retention, support your legs & back and provide additional comfort and support for you breast feeding moms.

3 Great Reasons to Use a Post-Partum Compression Belt #GetYourBodyBack

1. Reduce Swelling:

Much of your lingering belly will be due to fluids and swelling. For this reason, women throughout history have used binding to regain their pre-pregnancy shape. You will literally look and feel slimmer by simply using the belt to reduce the swelling.

2. Eliminate Back Pain:

In addition to reducing swelling, a post-partum belly wrap will provide support - just as weight lifters and employees at Home Depot wear a wide belt for extra back support - your post-partum compression belt will reduce back pain and help support your core as your regain your strength in the weeks following delivery. Let's remember that your stomach muscles have been severely stretched during pregnancy and in the case of a c-section the stomach muscles have been can be painful to even sit up straight and move about with a post-pregnancy support belt.

3. Shrink Your Rib Cage & Hips:

Every pregnant woman has heard about the wonderful hormone known as Relaxin. In short this wonderful hormone is responsible for physically relaxing your body allowing your ribs and hips (among other things) to expand to accommodate the little person growing inside. This hormone is still present for approximately 6 weeks after delivery (also known as the 4th trimester). That means that we have a good chance to bring back in our rib cage and hips using the gentle and sustained compression provided by a post-partum belt.

Not convinced? Here is a nice list of reasons this will be the best money spent for your post-pregnancy self:

  • Helps shrink the belly, waist and hips
  • Adds support to the upper body while breastfeeding
  • Comforts the mid-section after a C-section
  • Helps the body lose inches faster
  • Helps minimize stretch marks
  • Adds support to the back and legs
  • Accelerates the healing process
  • Streamlines the silhouette to look slimmer in clothing
  • Boosts self confidence
  • Aids in decreased bloating and swelling
  • Reminds you to utilize your core muscles
  • Helps to gently persuade muscles back together

How to Use a Post-Pregnancy Compression Belt

In the past, women have wrapped a sheet tightly around their abdomen and kept it on for 40 days following birth. Fast forward to today and thankfully women have another option! At Luna we love the Belly Bandit for a few reasons. The price is higher than some other compression belts - but the quality of compression is much better.  This means your belt will not stretch out and stop working after a week.

The Belly Bandit also comes with a very strong and wide velcro panel, meaning it will hold you in and shrink with you - but it also means you can take it off for showers etc...a serious improvement over sheets! Some customers ask why a Belly Bandit is better than a corset. Simply because a corset has very few settings and cannot offer the compression power of the Belly Bandit. A corset or some other type of shaper is perfect for after the initial compression period of 6 weeks.

A Belly Bandit is super easy to use and is doctor approved. (To be sure of your individual case, please ask your doctor). There are a few ways to make sure you get the most out of your post-baby compression.

    Tips For Maximum Results

    1. Wear your Belly Bandit as soon as you get home from the hospital. We therefore recommend buying your Belly Bandit before delivery because after having a baby the last thing you will want to do is go shopping. least for a while!

    2. Wear it all the time. Yes ladies - all the time. Take it off for showers obviously but other than that it should be worn 24/7. And don't worry - because of the support and comfort it provides (not to mention the slimming) you will want to wear it all the time.

    3. Wear it tight! Sometimes customers come in with their belt loosely on and they tell me they don't think it is working...IT HAS TO BE TIGHT! Not so tight that you can't breathe - or feel discomfort - but it is called compression for a reason!

Choosing the Perfect Post-Partum Belt To Suit Your Needs

After using the belts personally and based on the feedback of many customers we have identified the top two options:

B.F.F. (Body Formulated Fit):  Perfect for petite women, short-waisted women and curvy women. There are two panels that hug your curves in comfort while offering 2 more inches of Velcro. This design creates the ability for a woman to have the compression conform to create a natural silhouette – because we are all not built the same.

Bamboo: Super soft and about an inch taller. This is the belt we recommend for tall or long-waisted women and anyone who has had a c-section. You can still close it on a diagonal to get the perfect fit. Wearing the Belly Bandit™ after a c-section may help to decrease post-op recovery time by minimizing associated incision pain, which allows greater mobility post-surgery.

    Word to the Wise

You may end up going through two sizes. I initially balked at the idea of spending on a second belt - but when you are slimming down so fast - you will be glad to buy a second belt. Let's face it, I would have spent thousands of dollars to get my old body back - a couple of hundred seemed like a deal. When I was at home and feeling super keen, I wore both belts, with the bigger belt on my hip area to take advantage of the relaxin I had still floating around.

    Choosing The Right Size

Here are some tips to help you find the right size:

    * In the eighth month many women will be the same size as they will be post delivery. Simply measure the circumference of your waist starting at your belly button. Choose the corresponding band for your size.

    * Just prior to delivery simply subtract 3 to 5 inches from your waist measurement. Select the corresponding band for that size.
    * If you purchase it after you give birth, simply choose the corresponding band for your waist size.

Band Size: EXTRA SMALL Fits Current Waist Size: 28” - 32”

Band Size: SMALL Fits Current Waist Size: 33” - 37”

Band Size: MEDIUM Fits Current Waist Size: 38” - 43”

    Band Size:LARGE Fits Current Waist Size: 44” - 49”

Band Size:EXTRA LARGE Fits Current Waist Size: 50” - 57”

Buy Nursing Tops That Are Both Stylish and Functional December 01, 2014 22:40

There are many reasons why women buy nursing tops rather than just using any top they currently own. Many experts encourage breastfeeding rather than using formula and if you take this route it is important to feel as relaxed as possible while nursing. Wearing nursing tops can really help to make the experience more comfortable for you and that is ultimately good for both mom and baby (and in fact the whole family!)

    Why Buy Nursing Tops?

Some women wonder why they need to buy nursing tops instead of wearing regular maternity tops or older tops that they currently have sitting in their closet. In a nutshell, nursing tops are designed for easy access while providing privacy. This helps to not only feed your baby quickly, but also do so a bit inconspicuously, as they will often need to be fed when it is not the ideal situation. Many of our stylish nursing tops are designed to cover the breast area during nursing, allowing for feeding at virtually any time with complete discretion. Some women prefer a ‘pull-down’ type of access which is also quick and easy – and we stock a large selection of those types of nursing tops too.  If you are still not sold on the need for a nursing top - just think: who really wants to lift up their top every time baby is hungry? Just having had a baby – baring my abdomen was close to the bottom of my list of things I would like to do!

    How to Buy Nursing Clothing

There are a few must-have nursing basics that will make your life easier and your breastfeeding experience more enjoyable – these essentials are of course nursing bras and nursing tops. Just as nursing bras range from total comfort to total fashion, so too do nursing tops. You will want to buy good quality nursing tops because you will constantly be washing them (think spit up and other baby joys). Think about your usual style and start there – being a mom doesn’t mean that you should give up what makes you feel your best. You deserve a few nursing tops for around the house as well as going out…and don’t forget about sleep. The ‘in the middle of the night’ feedings are more comfortable if you don’t have to also deal with a cold tummy!

    Don’t Forget About Nursing Dresses!

I remember leaving the hospital with my first little guy – everything is packed and ready to go, the forms are signed and we are almost out the hospital room door when he begins to cry like crazy wanting to be fed – despite the fact that I fed him before the checkout process begun… but I digress. I will never forget the look on the nurse’s face when I started to pull my comfy sundress up from the bottom trying as quickly as I could to get to the hook on my nursing bra. Her comment, “Didn’t you know you were having a baby?”. So yes a comfortable dress is a great way to leave the hospital – just make sure it is nursing friendly! I also remember at my son’s baptism struggling in the bathroom, disrobing just to get to my breasts – again, never thought about nursing friendly clothing. By the time we went to our next special occasion – I was totally prepared with a gorgeous dress that would accommodate breastfeeding. Life in paradise!

Nursing Top & Dress Purchase Tips

    • Consider what type of access you prefer. You may need to experiment to truly find your preference as some women prefer styles that cover their entire breast area, while some like the clear sight lines provided by ‘pull-down’ access. It all comes down to personal preference.
    • Shop for style. Yes, we said style! Nursing tops don’t have to be boring and dull. One quick look at our selection of sexy nursing tops and you will see that the styles have come a long way in recent years. These aren’t your mother’s nursing tops! A great deal of nursing clothes don’t look like nursing items at all and can easily be integrated into your non-nursing wardrobe and enjoyed for years to come. There are special occasion nursing tops and dresses as well as casual options from basic lounge t-shirts to cute dresses perfect for breastfeeding on the go.
    • Look for quality. As mentioned you will most likely need to wash your nursing tops more often than you would be inclined to believe. Don’t waste your money on nursing tops that fall apart in the wash, shrink, fade, pill or even worse – look so bad you never want to wear them! All of the stylish nursing tops, dresses and sleepwear that we carry are flattering and high quality – helping you look and feel your best.
    • Select comfortable materials. The last thing you want to deal with when nursing is scratchy materials or fabrics that don’t breathe. All of the nursing, dresses and breastfeeding sleepwear that we carry are constructed of the highest quality materials that are safe for mom and baby and you can feel good knowing that all of our clothing is sweatshop-free!

Tips to Help You Buy Nursing Tops Online

Let’s face it, online shopping is very convenient to do from the comfort of your home, especially with a newborn in the picture!  This is one of the reasons we decided to launch an online presence with a large selection of the highest quality maternity and breastfeeding clothes. So, to help you buy nursing tops and other maternity necessities online, we have put together this list of tips.

    • Shop in advance. We all know that one of the worst feelings is looking in our closet with nothing to wear. Especially as a new mom when everyone else’s needs come first and especially with a body that has undergone some serious and sometimes unnerving changes. When you are pregnant focus on buying maternity clothes that will also work for nursing. This will extend the life of your wardrobe and ensure that you are not trying to survive on next to nothing in the way of breastfeeding-friendly clothing.

    • Purchase multiple items to save on shipping. We offer free shipping on all orders over $100, so it pays to purchase multiple items – you are going to need them anyway so take advantage of special promotions when you can.

    • Look for a retail presence as well. There are a lot of websites that sell maternity clothes online, but just because they have a website it doesn’t make them an expert. We have a physical retail location as well, and have literally served thousands of breastfeeding women – we know the challenges and can help you by providing guidance of what has worked well for other new mothers and probably answer some questions you didn’t even think to ask! We love to speak with our customers and help them pick out the perfect maternity and nursing clothes!

    • Assume you can. Sometimes we hear that women want to delay purchasing nursing clothing ‘in case they can’t breastfeed’. Please know that breastfeeding for many women is challenging – poor latches, not enough milk swollen ducts, and cracked nipples plague many women. These bumps in the road can feel like the end of the road and some disappointedly assume that it wasn’t meant to be. We may also get pressured from well-meaning family or receive out-of-date advice from doctors who may have studied a chapter on breastfeeding in school. We are led to believe that it will either work or not work. That is very far from the truth. Expect it to take approximately 6 weeks to get the hang of nursing your baby. You will learn and the baby will also learn and before you know it, breastfeeding your baby will be the easiest and most stress-free thing you do in a day. I promise!

So, whether you need to buy nursing clothing for around the house or for going out, we have a stylish selection of beautiful tops and dresses to meet your needs. If you ever have specific questions about a style that we offer please contact us – we are always more than happy to speak to you and answer any questions that you might have.

Sophisticated Maternity Dresses – Yes, We Have Those Too!

Don’t assume that a sexy maternity dress has to resemble something ultra sleek and hot along the lines of lingerie. Feeling sexy while you are pregnant starts with truly loving what you are wearing. Let’s be honest for a moment; wearing big baggy clothes just isn’t going to do the trick. Try combining an elegant maternity dress with a sexy maternity bra to make you feel incredible and emit that beautiful pregnancy glow!

With so many women opting to maintain pre-pregnancy style throughout their term it has resulted in a much larger selection of stylish dresses to select from. Some might blame society for the added pressure to remain beautiful, but the majority of women have the inner desire to feel and look their best throughout their pregnancy.

5 Simple Tips to Feel Ultra Sexy During Your Pregnancy

    1. Stay away from baggy clothes.

Simply put, you aren’t going to feel sexy wearing big baggy clothes. There is absolutely nothing wrong with proudly and elegantly showing off your changing form, so wear beautiful dresses with flattering cuts and fabrics.

    1. Don’t be afraid of color.

Black and white are always a great choice, but don’t be afraid to try a bold color or a wild print. Gone are the days that women try to mask the baby bump, so get with the times and show it off to the world with a comfortable and sexy maternity dress from one of our excellent designers.

    1. Heels can still be your friend.

We aren’t talking about six-inch stilettos here, but there is no rule against wearing a one or two inch heel that elongates your legs and creates a sleek and sexy shape. Match your sexy maternity dress with a pair of black pumps to really set your outfit off!

    1. Don’t ditch the makeup just yet.

There are several all-natural organic brands of makeup that can be safely used throughout your pregnancy. While you are going to carry a natural glow, complimenting it with smoky eyes and some neutral lips can really make you feel sexy.

    1. Emit confidence.

If you feel confident inside then it is going to radiate through, and dressing in maternity clothes that make you feel beautiful and sexy is going to help turn that confidence up a notch!

Our entire line of sexy maternity dresses are so stylish that you will be glad to know that most will grown and shrink with you so that you can wear them for years not months!

Must Have Maternity Basics - The Best Black Maternity Pants For Work September 12, 2014 11:00

For most of us, black pants (maternity or otherwise) would be considered a wardrobe staple - and taking the time to find the right pair will pay off big time. Let's face it - the only thing worse than standing in front of your closet wondering what am I going to wear - is standing in front of your closet pregnant wondering what am I going to wear?

The usual rules apply: it is wise to spend a little more and buy something you feel totally great in and that will survive constant wash and wear. Because (this may be obvious but just in case) it's not saving money if you don't wear it.

If you are looking for a classic pair of suit or office pants then you will love the Queen Mum Maternity City pants collection. They come in skinny, straight leg or bootcut and are a pregnant professional's dream come true.

For business casual a fantastic option is the Boob Maternity Slim Pant; they look like office pants and feel like yoga pants - they literally look good with trainers, boots and pumps. What more could you ask for?!

If you prefer a completely skinny maternity black pant, consider a maternity tregging such as

Depending on your work environment, you could get away with a pair of black jeggings paired with a nice top or tunic. And if that is the case, are top picks are Boob treggings in black (no back pockets, can be worn over or under the tummy) Mama i Ja  Kala treggings (thicker material with slimming back pockets!). For an under-the-tummy option check out the celebrity favourite from J Brand.

At Luna we carry a HUGE selection of black pants - so feel free to email or call with questions about style or fit and you can be sure to find your must-have maternity pants.

    Stand Up Straight July 09, 2014 11:38

Nothing improves the way we look and feel faster than good posture - standing up straight, shoulders back and head held high. Yet all the lovingly repeated cradling, protecting, carrying, hugging, feeding, bending, picking up, cradling, protecting, hugging, feeding, bending, picking up of motherhood can wreak havoc on our posture. This of course will eventually wreak havoc on our health and well-being. Here is a super simple and effective way to straighten up. Stand with your back against a wall and move the heels of your feet, your buttocks, shoulders and the back of your head back to touch the wall. Take a few breaths and feel your shoulders lower. Continue breathing (duh) and walk away from the wall. I love to do this when I am getting ready in the morning or find myself stressed during the day - I literally walk away a new person.

    4 Things I Wish I Did When I Was Pregnant June 29, 2014 22:55

    1. Use Tummy Butter – Not only is the (light) massaging motion awesome for moving blood to the skin’s surface – vital to preventing stretch marks – but it is also a perfect way to connect with baby. Too often we are pulled in so many directions we hardly have time to connect with our little one growing inside. Since the skin is our body’s largest organ, it is worth it to use a product with an ingredient list we can pronounce.  Not the cheapest on the market but the reviews from women everywhere sold me on the non-toxic Spoiled Mama brand.
    2. Fight the Frump – Despite the many joys, in this body-obsessed world the weight gained during a pregnancy can be hard on our sense of self. Echoing the words of a gorgeous customer, as we get bigger we should dress up instead of dressing down. In the fight against ‘Feeling Frumpy’ (a serious enemy of self-esteem) the power of a versatile maternity dress and some accessories should not be underestimated.
    3. Take Maternity Photos – There is no need for 3000 photos but you will be glad you took the time for maternity photos. I wanted to but I waited and then I got busy and then I felt huge and now the only photo left of myself pregnant is both frumpy and shot from the wrong angle. That’s why our favourite store promotion is the free mini-maternity photo session and free 5x7 from BoyGirl Photography. Be inspired by these Luna Bellies
    4. Get Out of the Gown – Although you will no longer technically be pregnant, please, please, please learn from my mistakes and pack something nice (and nursing-friendly) to change into after baby is born. It will do you (and baby’s first photos) a world of good.

Tips for How to Play With Our Children June 08, 2014 14:35

In SuperBaby, author Dr. Jenn Berman helps us to raise the level of play
...without taking it over. I find #5 in her "what not to do' list the hardest!

    1. Ask to join the play. "What would you like me to do?"
    2. Describe what your child is doing: "I see you're putting the giraffe in the car."
    3. Use effective praise: "You piled the blocks so high!"
    4. Use noninvasive touch: Gently putting a hand on your child's back for a second to connect and show affection.
    5. Build on your child's creative play: Is the giraffe washing his hair in the bathtub?"
    1. Give instructions: "Now put the red block over here."
    2. Make corrections: "Giraffes don't go in bathtubs."
    3. Give commands: "Do it like this."
    4. Give criticisms: "Don't be so messy."
    5. Instruct & give lessons: "You drew it wrong; cars have 4 wheels not 3. Draw another wheel."
    6. Use negative touch: Grabbing a child's wrist while saying, "Don't get paint on the table."
    7. Interrupt: Talking over your child.

The Secret to Feeling Gorgeous While Pregnant May 20, 2014 14:42

For some women, the growing body that comes with pregnancy is an exciting and glorious time. For many however, there is also a struggle to embrace 'getting bigger' ... quite understandable in our society where gaining weight is a sign of weakness. As with any weight gain (forget the fact that there is another human growing in us!) there is a tendency to dress down. This attempt to fade into the background is one of the worst things we can do for our self esteem. Ladies, let's do ourselves a favour and as we grow, let's dress up instead of dressing down. Bypass the yoga pants and baggy cardigans and find a flattering and versatile maternity dress that helps you feel fabulous. Yes you can wear a dress to the mall. Makeup and jewelry to hang with friends - why not!?! We all know that looking good is tied to feeling good - so remember - fight the frump!

Why Bother With Nursing Clothes May 06, 2014 15:08

Clothes designed with access for breastfeeding will make your life easier.  You just had a baby - do you really want to whip up your shirt time baby needs to eat?! Rewind a few years back, just about to leave the hospital with my little guy and all of a sudden the frantic cries for food began - at that point I remember starting to hike my long dress up trying to feed this crying baby and the lactation consultant looked at me and asked, "Didn't you know you were having a baby?". Whether you are leaving the hospital, at the mall, going for a walk, in the car, sitting on your couch at home or awake for a night-time feeding - a nursing shirt, nursing dress or nursing pyjama will help you maintain your comfort and style while breastfeeding.

Be Good To Your Girls March 06, 2014 14:11

For most women, heaviness or tenderness of the breasts is one of the first signs of pregnancy.

There is no prize for suffering - your breasts are growing, your rib cage is growing - you need a bra that can adapt.

Try to avoid buying a regular bra in a bigger size - you will not be that size again - buy a bra that can grow and shrink with you.

For some, there is a mental block involved with undergarments - even when they are digging in and hurting - we resist change.

Undergarments that don't fit create bumps and lumps that make us feel fat instead of pregnant.

Good bra = good foundation: customers instantly look and feel better when they make the switch to something that fits!

Many women wear a sleep bra to bed - try it and you will wonder why you didn't do it sooner.

Be good to your girls and they will be good to you!!
