Why Buying Cheap Maternity Clothes Doesn't Save You Money February 21, 2015 09:48

I have always been a price-oriented shopper - the sale rack is where I start in every store. I have learned an important lesson over the years, which is - that in most cases - we get what we pay for. Nowhere is that more true than in maternity clothing. Simply because you will be washing and wearing a few core pieces again and again. I bought a pair of black maternity pants from the mall - after 2 washes they were no longer black and my butt was sagging! I ended up buying another pair and the same thing - fading, pilling and crappy fit - after only a few washes. So two pairs of black maternity pants and I still didn't have anything to wear. Did buying cheap save me money? Paying more for something I love to wear and feel fabulous in is smart - otherwise the item sits in the back of our closet - I got a great deal - but I never wear it...is that saving money?

Maternity Leggings: A Pregnant Woman's Best Friend January 24, 2015 22:57

One of the most common remarks we hear from women trying on clothes in our store is, "Wow! This is so comfortable!".

Yes we all love the idea of 'saving' and somehow we have it in our head that there is some award for suffering with discomfort...actually the opposite is true. We can get the unjust title of 'a complainer'!

Pregnancy already comes with its own set of discomforts - why add to them by trying to wear clothes that almost fit, kinda fit or fit as long as you don't move, breathe or bend over.

A basic pair of black maternity leggings are a pregnancy must-have. Everybody has their own idea of a perfect leggings but the Seraphine maternity legging is a best-seller for 6 basic reasons:

1. The price - we sell them for only $40.

2. The band goes up all the way over the tummy (or can be folded down). This means no annoying line in the middle of your tummy - even when you are really big - and no discomfort whatsoever.

3. They have a very slight sheen - meaning they can be worn with dressier tops and dresses as well - they don't look like sweatpants.

4. Very breathable! You can sleep in these leggings and they are perfect for pre-labour.

5. Totally opaque - even when you bend over, even in the sun, even if you had a big lunch.

6. They wash really well - no fading, no pilling - wash after wash (assuming they don't mistakenly get put in the dryer with hubby's socks!)

Remember there is no award for trudging through pregnancy, stretching out your pre-pregnancy clothes or buying one size bigger and pretending they fit everywhere else!

You deserve comfort, you deserve quality - and at $40 a pair - these are crafted with the stylish and economical woman in mind.

Sophisticated Maternity Dresses – Yes, We Have Those Too!

Don’t assume that a sexy maternity dress has to resemble something ultra sleek and hot along the lines of lingerie. Feeling sexy while you are pregnant starts with truly loving what you are wearing. Let’s be honest for a moment; wearing big baggy clothes just isn’t going to do the trick. Try combining an elegant maternity dress with a sexy maternity bra to make you feel incredible and emit that beautiful pregnancy glow!

With so many women opting to maintain pre-pregnancy style throughout their term it has resulted in a much larger selection of stylish dresses to select from. Some might blame society for the added pressure to remain beautiful, but the majority of women have the inner desire to feel and look their best throughout their pregnancy.

5 Simple Tips to Feel Ultra Sexy During Your Pregnancy

  1. Stay away from baggy clothes.

Simply put, you aren’t going to feel sexy wearing big baggy clothes. There is absolutely nothing wrong with proudly and elegantly showing off your changing form, so wear beautiful dresses with flattering cuts and fabrics.

  1. Don’t be afraid of color.

Black and white are always a great choice, but don’t be afraid to try a bold color or a wild print. Gone are the days that women try to mask the baby bump, so get with the times and show it off to the world with a comfortable and sexy maternity dress from one of our excellent designers.

  1. Heels can still be your friend.

We aren’t talking about six-inch stilettos here, but there is no rule against wearing a one or two inch heel that elongates your legs and creates a sleek and sexy shape. Match your sexy maternity dress with a pair of black pumps to really set your outfit off!

  1. Don’t ditch the makeup just yet.

There are several all-natural organic brands of makeup that can be safely used throughout your pregnancy. While you are going to carry a natural glow, complimenting it with smoky eyes and some neutral lips can really make you feel sexy.

  1. Emit confidence.

If you feel confident inside then it is going to radiate through, and dressing in maternity clothes that make you feel beautiful and sexy is going to help turn that confidence up a notch!

Our entire line of sexy maternity dresses are so stylish that you will be glad to know that most will grown and shrink with you so that you can wear them for years not months!

Stand Up Straight July 9, 2014 11:38

Nothing improves the way we look and feel faster than good posture - standing up straight, shoulders back and head held high. Yet all the lovingly repeated cradling, protecting, carrying, hugging, feeding, bending, picking up, cradling, protecting, hugging, feeding, bending, picking up of motherhood can wreak havoc on our posture. This of course will eventually wreak havoc on our health and well-being. Here is a super simple and effective way to straighten up. Stand with your back against a wall and move the heels of your feet, your buttocks, shoulders and the back of your head back to touch the wall. Take a few breaths and feel your shoulders lower. Continue breathing (duh) and walk away from the wall. I love to do this when I am getting ready in the morning or find myself stressed during the day - I literally walk away a new person.

4 Things I Wish I Did When I Was Pregnant June 29, 2014 22:55

1. Use Tummy Butter – Not only is the (light) massaging motion awesome for moving blood to the skin’s surface – vital to preventing stretch marks – but it is also a perfect way to connect with baby. Too often we are pulled in so many directions we hardly have time to connect with our little one growing inside. Since the skin is our body’s largest organ, it is worth it to use a product with an ingredient list we can pronounce.  Not the cheapest on the market but the reviews from women everywhere sold me on the non-toxic Spoiled Mama brand.
2. Fight the Frump – Despite the many joys, in this body-obsessed world the weight gained during a pregnancy can be hard on our sense of self. Echoing the words of a gorgeous customer, as we get bigger we should dress up instead of dressing down. In the fight against ‘Feeling Frumpy’ (a serious enemy of self-esteem) the power of a versatile maternity dress and some accessories should not be underestimated.
3. Take Maternity Photos – There is no need for 3000 photos but you will be glad you took the time for maternity photos. I wanted to but I waited and then I got busy and then I felt huge and now the only photo left of myself pregnant is both frumpy and shot from the wrong angle. That’s why our favourite store promotion is the free mini-maternity photo session and free 5x7 from BoyGirl Photography. Be inspired by these Luna Bellies
4. Get Out of the Gown – Although you will no longer technically be pregnant, please, please, please learn from my mistakes and pack something nice (and nursing-friendly) to change into after baby is born. It will do you (and baby’s first photos) a world of good.

Tips for How to Play With Our Children June 8, 2014 14:35

In SuperBaby, author Dr. Jenn Berman helps us to raise the level of play
...without taking it over. I find #5 in her "what not to do' list the hardest!

CHILD-LED PLAY:

1. Ask to join the play. "What would you like me to do?"
2. Describe what your child is doing: "I see you're putting the giraffe in the car."
3. Use effective praise: "You piled the blocks so high!"
4. Use noninvasive touch: Gently putting a hand on your child's back for a second to connect and show affection.
5. Build on your child's creative play: Is the giraffe washing his hair in the bathtub?"
ADULT-DOMINATED PLAY:
1. Give instructions: "Now put the red block over here."
2. Make corrections: "Giraffes don't go in bathtubs."
3. Give commands: "Do it like this."
4. Give criticisms: "Don't be so messy."
5. Instruct & give lessons: "You drew it wrong; cars have 4 wheels not 3. Draw another wheel."
6. Use negative touch: Grabbing a child's wrist while saying, "Don't get paint on the table."
7. Interrupt: Talking over your child.
